I quickly noticed a pattern - only addons on an approved list of "free" addons would install for me. Well oh boy, let's get straight to it - prior to GNU IceCat 68, I noticed that I could not install certain extensions or themes. You'd think that this would show a commitment to the spirit of freedom, right? I will say that it's actually a private browser and has a purpose for existing. So basically it's Firefox rebranded as "free software". GNU IceCat is based on the the current official release of Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) with removal of trademarked artwork and proprietary components, and enhanced privacy settings. What is GNU IceCat? GNU IceCat (originally GNU IceWeasel) is part of GNUzilla (the GNU version of the Mozilla Application Suite). Let's take a look (ugh i cannot write today) GNU IceCatĪnd we'll start here. But we might still hope they're dedicated to a spirit of it, right? They're not. So as we can tell, the FSF does not truly care about freedom.

The free software movement was founded on four freedoms: This sounds good, right? Spoiler alert: its really not what it seems. They "advocate" for "true" software freedom by following the "fundamental" 4 software freedoms. I'm very sure you've heard of the FSF by now so I'm not gonna bother going in detail but tl dr they are teh founders of the free/open source movement, led by Richard Stallman. These are the simps/coomers/idk whats the cool shit these days (not that the simp/coomer/whatever the fuck meme is ever funny or constructive, just its an archetype of people that needs to be highlighted) of FOSS, that will blindly defend FOSS and half of the time not even use FOSS! We'll also cover the FSF obsessed virgins that do only use FOSS and why that sucks too. I'm not just gonna go over the FSF though - I'm gonna go over what we call a basic FOSS bitch.
It is not an ally of true freedom, but instead just the freedom to choose another master - them and their ideology, which we'll explore and quickly find is not what we need. I hope to make a strong case as to why we cannot let ourselves be lied to by the FSF. In his article on the flaws on the FOSS movement, he didn't quite cover the FSF enough. However, there is another enemy lurking in the shadows, pretending to be our ally when it is just another form of control in itself - the FSF. My inspiration for this site in digdeeper did a very well-known article on the evil of Mozilla. Also, ignore LibreJS, which was a terribly messy way of handling the JavaScript trap and has set us back a decade in dealing with the issue. There are lunatics though and they should be avoided - don't fall towards their "100% free software" distros that do not work on machines and preclude you from the choice of getting software you may pootentially need.
